Legal
Terms of Service
Last updated: 21 June 2025
These Terms of Service describe the conditions under which Chigiri makes this website available and under which legal services are provided. By using this website or submitting an enquiry, you acknowledge that you have read and understood these terms. Use of the website does not constitute the formation of an adviser-client relationship; that relationship arises only once a formal engagement letter has been signed by both parties.
1. Acceptable Use of This Website
-
1.1
This website is made available for personal and professional information purposes. You may browse and use it for lawful purposes in connection with seeking legal advice or understanding the services offered.
-
1.2
You must not use this website to transmit any material that is unlawful, harmful, defamatory, fraudulent or that infringes third-party rights. Automated scraping, crawling or harvesting of content without prior written permission is prohibited.
-
1.3
Any information submitted through the contact form should be accurate, genuine and not submitted on behalf of another person without authority to do so.
-
1.4
Fair use guidelines apply to all interactions with this website. Repeated frivolous or bad-faith submissions may result in access being restricted.
2. Website Content and Legal Advice
-
2.1
All content on this website is provided for general informational purposes only. Nothing on this website constitutes legal advice and should not be relied upon as such. Legal situations vary considerably; only a formal consultation based on the specific facts of your matter can produce advice you may rely on.
-
2.2
Descriptions of services and practice areas are summaries intended to help prospective clients understand whether this practice may be of assistance. They are not exhaustive and do not guarantee any particular outcome.
3. Engagement and Account Terms
-
3.1
A formal adviser-client relationship is created only upon execution of a written engagement letter confirming the scope of work, fee arrangements and applicable terms. Submission of a contact form does not create such a relationship.
-
3.2
Chigiri reserves the right to decline any matter without providing a reason, where accepting it would give rise to a conflict of interest, fall outside the scope of current practice areas, or for any other professional reason.
-
3.3
Fee estimates provided in advance are based on information available at that time. Changes in scope, complexity or the behaviour of opposing parties may affect final fees, and any such changes will be communicated to you before additional charges are incurred.
-
3.4
Either party may terminate an engagement by written notice, subject to any terms set out in the engagement letter, including payment for work completed to the date of termination.
4. Service Availability and Modifications
-
4.1
This website is provided on an "as available" basis. Chigiri does not guarantee that the website will be accessible at all times or that its content will be free from error. Maintenance and updates may result in temporary unavailability.
-
4.2
The content of this website may be amended, updated or removed at any time without notice. Practice areas, fee structures and other service details are subject to change.
-
4.3
Services are available to clients located in or with matters governed by Japanese law. Geographic restrictions may apply in other jurisdictions, and we will advise you of any such limitations when they are relevant to your enquiry.
5. Intellectual Property
-
5.1
All text, design, structure and content on this website is the property of Chigiri or is used with permission. It may not be reproduced, distributed or used for commercial purposes without prior written consent.
-
5.2
Documents or materials produced as part of a client engagement remain the intellectual property of Chigiri until fees are paid in full, at which point ownership transfers to the client as specified in the engagement letter.
-
5.3
The name "Chigiri" and associated marks used on this website may not be used by third parties in any context without prior written permission.
6. Amendments to These Terms
These Terms of Service may be revised at any time. The date of the most recent revision appears at the top of this page. Continued use of this website following any revision constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. If you have an active engagement, any changes to engagement terms will be communicated separately in writing.
